The “Chancelier Street” of the 1800s, the “Sehbender” of the 1900s has taken its place among the most prominent streets of Istanbul. The street which is now known as “Babylon’s Street” has rapidly become one of the best music venues in the world. Babylon is not just a club, it is a complete performance venue.
Being opened in 1999 as a performance center, Babylon was a pioneer in Turkey, as it allowed performances of various forms of art to be watched almost every day of the week. Ever since, the Babylon team (Pozitif) has made significant contributions to Turkey’s cultural life.
By hosting a crisp and rich program with an intercultural mentality, and accommodating numerous Turkish and foreign musicians, Babylon instills its dynamism to the Asmalımescit area, which is known as the “Soho of Istanbul”. With its architecture, acoustic design and technical hardware, Babylon is considered the best live music venue in Turkey.

We don’t define Babylon as a venue you should go to if you “happen to” stop by Asmalımescit. We especially suggest that you revise your route for Babylon, and make sure you go. After having a snack in the “Resting lounge of Asmalımescit”, Babylon Lounge, who knows, perhaps you may come across a Patricia Barber, Gotan Project, John Surman, Marianne Faithfull, Jane Birkin, Erik Truffaz, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Mercan Dede or Baba Zula concert. Of course it is still advised to check the Babylon program before coming to Istanbul!
