Dogubeyazit

One of the major sites of this town is the tremendous 18th century Ishak Pasa palace, built on a high valley overlooking the caravan route. Begun in 1685 by Colak Abdi Pasa, the palace was finished in 1784 by his son, Isak. The architecture is a mixture of styles and used to contain huge gold-plated doors which were hung on the portal. These were taken by the Russians in their invasion of 1917 and are now housed in Moscow. In it time, the palace had central heating, running water and a sewer system. Dogubeyazit is also the town closest to Mr. Ararat.
