Trysa
You will reach the village of Davazlar after seeing a tomb resembling a temple carved into the rocks along the Kas-Finike road. Trysa is one kilometer away from this village in the Gölbasi district. If you are climbing on the eastern side of the hill where there are many sarcophagi, you can also see the remains of cyclopean-style water walls and other structures on the northern and western side of Trysa. When you reach the northeast end of the hill, you will see heroon’s remains which are called the Gölbasi Monument. The heroon is surrounded by a wall built with polygonal stones. There is a sarcophagus prepared for a family placed on the western side of these walls. The entrance to the heroon was built in the fourth century B.C. and is accessed from a decorated wall on the eastern side. Outside of the door, the lento is decorated with pictures of four bulls with wings and among them are gorgons. Under the exterior bulls there are men sitting in chairs. Under the internal bulls there are women with their daughters with their faces turned away from the men. These are believed to be the owners of the tomb. Mythological scenes decorate the double row frieze in the interior side of the wall that circles the heroon. On the outside of the wall, where the wall is, there are pictures depicting the war between the Amazons and the Greeks. On the second row, there are centuars, creatures which above the waist are men, and below the waist are horses. On the other side, you can see a battle scene. On the eastern wall of the heroon, there are reliefs of Theseus on both friezes along the entire wall. Theseus, the son of the king of Athens, faced giants and wild animals on his way to Athens where he was going to see his father, and he killed all of them. He also killed the dreadful Minotaur on the island of Crete, and this made him a hero in Greece. Another hero Perseus is also depicted in the friezes. Perseus was the son of Zeus and a maiden named Danae and he committed several acts of courage, including cutting off the head of the Medusa. |
