Tomb of Weeping Women

It was found in 1887 in Sayda by a peasant ploughing his field and was brought to Istanbul by Osman Hamdi Bey. It is one of the most important tombs in the world, dating back to the Hellenistic period. It is supposed to be the tomb of Saydian King Stration who died in 360 B.C. It is 2.97 m in height, 2.54 m in lenght, and 1.37 m in. wedth. The reliefs represent women weeping for the death of their King, and the funeral march. (Istanbul Archaelogical Museum).
